New Delhi, March 10: The Central Government has taken a big move by declaring 10% reservation for ex-Agniveers in open positions with the Border Security Force (BSF) and relaxing the upper age limit rules depending on whether they are a part of the original batch or subsequent batches.

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) made the announcement through a notification issued on Thursday in the exercise of the powers conferred by clauses (b) and (c) of sub- section (2) of section 141 of the Border Security Force Act, 1968 (47 of 1968).

Utilizing its authority, the Central Government announced that the Border Security Force, General Duty Cadre (Non-Gazetted) Recruitment Rules, 2015 would be further amended to become the Border Security Force, General Duty Cadre (Amendment) Recruitment Rules, 2023.

With effect from March 9, the Central Government amended the Border Security Force, General Duty Cadre (Non-Gazetted) Recruitment Rules, 2015 so that notes would be inserted against the section relating to the post of Constable to relax the upper age limit for ex-Agniveers by up to five years for candidates belonging to the first batch of ex-Agniveers and up to three years for candidates belonging to all other batches of ex-Agniveers.

The Border Security Force, General Duty Cadre (Non-Gazetted) (Amendment) Recruitment Regulations, 2023 also included this note. It stipulates that ex-Agnives are excused from taking the physical proficiency test.
