Jamshedpur, July 5: The court of District and Sessions judge, Seraikela, Amit Shekhar on Wednesday sentenced 10 convicts in the Tabrez Ansari lynching case to 10 years imprisonment.
Apart from the imprisonment, the court has slapped a penalty of Rs 17,500 to be paid by each of the convicts.
Those sentenced include Prakash Mondal alias Pappu Mondal, Bhim Singh Munda, Sunamo Pradhan, Atul Mahali, Vikram Mondal, Chamu Nayak, Prem Chandra Mahali, Kamal Mahato, Madan Nayak and Mahesh Mahali.
The court pronounced the sentence after a hearing on the point of punishment on Wednesday. The accused were convicted on June 26 mainly under IPC Section 304 under which 10 years imprisonment is the maximum punishment.
While the court pronounced the sentence, Tabrez Ansari’s widow Shahista Parveen and other relatives of the family were present.

It may be mentioned here that Tabrez Ansari (24) who was a resident of Kadamdiha in Seraikela was allegedly lynched by a mob at Dhatkidih village under the same thana area on the night of June 18, 2019.
Tabrez was caught with a stolen motorcycle in Dhatkidih village where he had tried to commit theft in one of the houses on that eventful night. The residents of Dhatkidih village had thrashed Tabrez throughout the night before handing him over to the police.
The accused was sent to jail after a mandatory medical check-up in Seraikela Sadar Hospital on June 19. But on June 21, Tabrez’s condition suddenly deteriorated, leading the jail administration to admit him to the Seraikela Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his internal injury on June 22.
