New Delhi, April 16: In the past 24 hours, there have been 10,093 new cases of Covid-19 infection in India, according to the daily health bulletin published on Sunday by the Union Health Ministry.

India currently has 57,542 active cases, or 0.13 per cent of the total number of cases, according to the Health Ministry.

The nation had 6,248 recoveries in the past 24 hours, bringing the total recoveries to 4,42,29,459.

According to the Health Ministry, the current recovery rate is 98.68%, with a daily positivity rate of 5.61 per cent and a weekly positivity rate of 4.78 per cent.

A total of 220.66 cr vaccine doses—95.21 cr second dose and 22.87 cr precaution dose—have been given so far under the National Vaccination Drive, including the 807 doses given in the last 24 hours.

1,79,853 of the 92.40 billion covid tests that have been performed so far were done in the past 24 hours.

Prior to this, there were 10,753 new COVID-19 cases reported nationwide on Saturday.

Medical professionals have cautioned that the new XBB1.16 variant can dodge people’s immune systems in the wake of the recent spike in Covid cases, and the next four weeks are extremely important.

Dr Randeep Guleria, a former director of AIIMS, Delhi, stated on Saturday that despite a recent increase in Covid-19 infections across the nation, there is no need for panic.

“Covid-19 cases have been on the rise across the country. But the majority of the infections are mild. The rate of hospitalisation hasn’t gone up either. It’s not a panic-like situation yet,” Guleria said.
