New Delhi, April 5: Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said that 10, 600 km of roads have already been built with an estimated cost of Rs 13,000 crore as part of the Centre’s specific focus on expanding the road network in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) or Naxal-affected areas.
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, the Minister also stated that more than 16,200 kilometres of roads have been approved in LWE-affected areas under the specific schemes Road Requirement Plan-I (RRP-1) and Road Connectivity Project for LWE-affected Areas (RCPLWEA), with the construction of 10,600 kilometres of roads included in the projects.
According to the Minister, the central government has launched a number of development efforts in LWE-affected areas, with a particular focus on expanding the road network, boosting telecom access, financial inclusion of the local population, and skill development and education facilities.
In addition, the Minister stated that 2,343 mobile towers were installed under Phase-l of the Mobile Connectivity Project for LWE Affected Areas, and that a work order for 2,542 towers was issued under Phase-II.
