12 human trafficking victims from Jharkhand rescued in Delhi

Ranchi, Aug 12: A total of 12 victims of human trafficking from Jharkhand were rescued in Delhi on Friday. Out of the 12, 10 girls are residents of West Singhbhum whereas a boy and a girl belonging to simdega. A one-and-a-half-year-old girl named Anu was also one of the victims.

The Nodal officer of Integrated Rehabilitation Resource Center, New Delhi Nachiketa said that Anu’s mother was brought to Delhi while she was pregnant. Due to some reasons, she had become mentally unwell. After giving birth, she was unable to recognise her child. 

Delhi Police handed over the woman to the short stay home and the child to the Child Welfare Committee. The girl was staying in the welfare home. 

However, about a year after the mother’s treatment, she expressed her desire to meet her baby girl. With the help of West Singhbhum district administration, the girl was reunited with her mother and along with the team of Integrated Rehabilitation Resource Center, the mother and her baby girl are being sent to Jharkhand.

One of the rescued children is only 8 years old. The father of the child had died. Nothing is known of two of his four siblings. The baby girl was sold by human traffickers in Delhi about a year ago.

Among these children, both Sunita and Rekha (name changed) were rescued for the second time from the clutches of human traffickers. Many cases have also been registered in Delhi regarding physical abuse of many girls.

Strict instructions have been provided by the Women and Child Development Department to all the districts that the children of whichever district are rescued in Delhi, will be rehabilitated in the district by the District Social Welfare Officer and Child Protection Officer. 

In this case, taking initiative by the team of District Social Welfare Officer Anisha Kujur of West Singhbhum district and Sharad Kumar Gupta of District Child Protection, 10 girls of their district and one woman and one boy were rescued from Delhi and are on the way back to West Singhbhum.

The girls rescued from Delhi were brought to the city through brokers. Such brokers are very active in Jharkhand and take young girls to Delhi by luring them to live a good life and then selling them on the pretext of employing them in different houses. 

According to the instructions of the Social Welfare Women and Child Development Department, the children being sent to Jharkhand will be continuously monitored through the Village Child Protection Committee (VLCPC) by connecting them with the welfare schemes, sponsorship, foster care, Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls Schools run in the district, so that these To save girls from being victims of human trafficking again.
