New Delhi, Oct 18: Incessant rains in Kerala have made the situation very serious. A total of 27 people have lost their lives due to floods and landslides, while 8 are missing. An entire house was washed away in floods in Kerala’s Kottayam district last evening.
Defense PRO said that a team of army personnel from Kannur along with engineering and medical units has reached Wayanad for rescue operations. A total of 3 units have been deployed by the army so far. The tour of the rain-affected areas is going on through a Navy chopper with relief material. Two Air Force Helicopters MI-17 are on standby at Air Force Station Shangumugham.
Talking about North India, it is raining in Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand also. For Uttarakhand, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Monday and orange for Tuesday. According to media reports, the Char Dham Yatra has been stopped for the time being. Schools have been closed for Monday.
Due to the system formed in the Bay of Bengal, it has been raining continuously for the last 24 hours in the entire state including Bhopal. Due to the rain of up to 2 inches in Bhopal, the situation of traffic jams was created due to flooding in places. In Indore also it rained up to half an inch, 2 to 3 inches of water fell in Hoshangabad, Burhanpur and Gwalior.
Due to heavy rain, even the contact of Burhanpur with Maharashtra was lost. Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra connectivity was broken for about an hour due to the overflow of drain water on Bahadarpur road connecting Burhanpur to Maharashtra.
In Capital Delhi also it has been raining since Sunday. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light to heavy rain in many areas including Delhi, Noida, Gurugram even today. At the same time, there is a possibility of heavy rain and thundershowers in western UP and Haryana.
