Bangkok, Oct 6: A mass shooting at a children’s daycare facility in Nongbua Lamphu town, in the northeastern region of Thailand, has claimed at least 36 lives, including children, a police official said on Thursday. Shortly after, the gunman shot himself.
Police reported that there were 24 kids among the victims.
“There are at least 34 dead but details were still coming in,” Deputy Police spokesperson Archon Kraitong told Reuters.
Families of victims may be seen mourning the loss of their loved ones in a video that is becoming viral online. The injured are being escorted to the ambulance by a few individuals. Police searching for the shooter can be seen in another video.

The shooter, according to reports, was a former policeman. Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha had earlier ordered a manhunt for the shooter, who raced into the nursery carrying a rifle and a knife.
A handout from the Facebook page of Thailand’s Central Investigation Bureau shows a picture of former policeman Panya Khamrab, who is believed to be the shooter.
