Mathura, May 24: A car rammed into a roadside tree in Mathura on Wednesday, leaving one person badly injured and four others dead, the police said.

The victims, according to the police, were passengers in a car that apparently struck a tree in Mathura’s Baldeo Road area.

Five passengers were on board when the incident happened, they added.

They were identified as Ankit and Yogesh, both of whom reside in Rida Mohalla of Baldeo. Achal and Akash from the village of Anghai and Bharat alias Rocky.

“Prima facie it appeared that the vehicle driver tried to avoid an oncoming motorist and ended up colliding with the tree near Pilkhuni village,” officials said while adding that four of them died on the spot.

The identity of the driver, however, was unclear to the authorities.

According to the police, the deceased were transferred for post-mortem examination while the injured individual was transported to the district hospital.
