New Delhi: Amid a surge of hoax bomb threats to Indian airlines this week, it has been revealed that nearly 70% of the threats originated from a single unverified account on X (formerly Twitter). The anonymous handle, @adamlanza1111, posted threats targeting 46 domestic and international flights in just two days, according to a report by The Indian Express.
The account issued 12 threats on Friday night and escalated to 34 on Saturday. While initially targeting Indian carriers, it later expanded to international airlines such as American Airlines, JetBlue, and Air New Zealand.
Flights Targeted
Indian airlines affected include Air India, Vistara, IndiGo, Akasa Air, Alliance Air, SpiceJet, and Star Air, with threats received for multiple flights. Star Air reported threats for four flights, while other carriers were targeted for five flights each. The threats followed a similar pattern: “There are bombs onboard five of your planes… No one will make out alive. Hurry up and evacuate the plane.”
Some flights were already airborne when the threats were issued, while others had completed their journeys.
BCAS Response
In response to the rising number of threats, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) held an emergency meeting with airline representatives on Saturday evening in Delhi. Led by BCAS chief Zulfiquar Hasan, the meeting focused on reviewing safety protocols and ensuring airlines followed security guidelines strictly.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Hasan reassured passengers that safety measures in place were robust, stating, “Passengers should fly without fear.”
The X account responsible for these threats was suspended by the platform, following its involvement in this string of hoax bomb warnings.
