Ranchi, May 26: The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Fahim Kirmani on Thursday sentenced retired manager of Gumla-Simdega Central Cooperative bank Sagar Oraon for five years in jail with a fine of rupees one lakh.

He was immediately taken into custody and sent to the Gumla jail.

The case had been lodged against Oraon in 2004 after the district audit team detected a defalcation of over Rs 9 lakhs during 1998-2000. Oraon was manager (operations) of the bank. He has been convicted under Section 409 of the IPC. The case had been under trial for a long time.

According to APP Santosh Kumar Tudu, the bills of the bank generated by Oraon showed that he led a lavish life spending most of the funds on his personal hobbies and habits.
