Ramgarh court sentences two to 12 years in jail in 2021 rape case

Ramgarh, June 7: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge I Radha Krishna sentenced Jogendra Kharwar and Dukhu Singh to 12-year imprisonment for raping a girl. The court, hearing the case on a fast track, sentenced the culprits in less than a year.

Along with this, a fine of Rs 10,000 has also been imposed on them. The amount of the fine is to be given to the victim. In case of non-payment of fine, a provision of additional punishment of three years has been made.

Under the ST 130/21 Patratu police station case number 138/21, the court found the accused guilty under section 376 (1) of the IPC and sentenced them.

The incident is of 23rd August 2021. The victim was going to the market with her friend Chandradeep Oraon.  In the meantime, when the victim went to the toilet, the accused Jogendra Kharwar beat up the victim’s friend and took the victim into the bushes and raped her.

A written complaint was lodged by the victim in the police station on the same day.

On behalf of the prosecution, Additional Public Prosecutor SK Shukla recorded the statements of six witnesses before the court.  This includes the statement of researcher assistant sub-inspector NJ Khalko and Dr Savita Verma.

Additional Public Prosecutor SK Shukla had demanded strict punishment for both the accused on the basis of the evidence. On the basis of the evidence, the court found the accused guilty and sentenced them.
