Mumbai, June 10: The Bombay high court denied quick relief to Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik, who had requested a day of bail to vote in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

Justice PD Naik’s bench ordered Malik’s lawyers to alter their plea, which sought a police escort to convey him to the Vidhan Bhavan to vote.

The minister’s lawyer argued that he was only seeking police escort, not bail. The lawyers were ordered by the high court to revise the petition for escort and file it in front of the appropriate court.

At 1:30 p.m., Nawab Malik’s amended plea will be heard before Justice Bharati Dangre’s bench.

Notably, the Enforcement Directorate apprehended Malik on February 23 in connection with a money laundering case involving fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar. After a special Mumbai court dismissed his and fellow NCP leader Anil Deshmukh’s appeals for permission to vote in the elections, he went to the Bombay High Court.
