Daltonganj, June 13: Ring kurkurey and mixture of two different brands have been ordered to be taken off the shelves from the shops in Latehar following reports of these two products being unhealthy and causing illness.

A senior health official of Latehar Ved Prakash said on Monday “The two kids of Chandwa who died while undergoing treatment in RIMS Ranchi after allegedly eating the said ring kurkurey and mixture were girls.”

He added that the post mortem was conducted of the two girls and they are waiting for the report.

On behalf of the civil surgeon Latehar Dr Haren Chandra Mahto, Ved Prakash further said that he has written a letter to the superintendent of RIMS Ranchi for to provide case study of the deceased girls at the earliest. Prakash has sent a copy of the letter to the state surveillance officer as well.

Latehar food safety officer told lagatar24.com on Monday that the sale and purchase of the ring kurkurey and mixture of the two brands have been put on hold under the order of the sub divisional magistrate. He added that he has sent the samples of the snacks to the Namkum based State Food Testing Lab in Ranchi for testing.

No criminal case has so far been launched against the shop owner in Chandwa market from where ring kurkurey and mixture were bought which led to the death of two kids. The distributors too have been pulled up by the administration in Latehar. One of the two distributors of it is from Madhya Pradesh while the other is from Ranchi.

The mixture packet lacked mandatory labeling like date of manufacture and use before. A notice has been issued to the distributors in this regard. Sources said two children under Balumath block had similar symptoms when they consumed the ring kurkurey and mixture. However, the severity was less lethal.

Vomiting, loose motion, stomach cramps, fever and terrible restlessness have been reported after the consumption of the ring kurkurey and mixture among the kids, said sources. They added that the incidents of kids falling sick after these snacks in Chandwa and Balumath have caused considerable anxiety among the parents.
