Ranchi, June 15: A civil court lawyer S S Alam knocked on the door of the State Human Rights Commission demanding the registration of a murder case against the Ranchi police for opening fire on an unarmed procession taken out to protest against derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed by BJP leader Nupur Sharma. The BJP suspended Nupur after controversy over her statement.
Alam, through a letter to the human rights commission, said due to a fire opened by police two youths Mohammed Shahil (24) and Kaifi alias Tuasif (25) died while more than 15 youths sustained injuries. Terming it a violation of human rights, Alam said that firing is used as a last resort but the police used it as if protestors were extremists or criminals.
Alam has knocked on the door of the human rights commission as police in the city continue to pick up and arrest those involved in the June 10 violence that took place during a protest march taken out without prior permission of the district administration. After the incident, as many as 25 FIRs have been registered. Governor Ramesh Bias already took cognizance of the matter.
