New Delhi, June 17: Protests against the Centre’s Agnipath scheme for four-year contractual recruitment in the armed forces were held in different states. Protests over ‘Agnipath’ erupted across many states on Thursday and continued on Friday with trains set ablaze, public and police vehicles damaged, and personnel injured amid partisan political voices in favour and against the new recruitment plan for the defence forces that has sparked a firestorm.

Hundreds of young applicants for positions in the armed forces went to the streets across the country, from Ara in Bihar to Palwal in Haryana, and from Agra in Uttar Pradesh to Gwalior and Indore in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh.

Angry youths blocked railway tracks, hurled burning tyres on roadways and performed push-ups and other drills on the streets protesting the new recruitment policy, prompting police to fire tear gas shells and use batons to disperse them.
