New Delhi, June 22: Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde claimed to have the support of 46 MLAs, including 40 from his party and 6 Independents, when he arrived in Guwahati in BJP-ruled Assam early this morning.
“I have support of 46 MLAs including Independents,” he said.
Eknath Shinde denied having any plans to switch parties and insisted that he will continue to uphold Balasaheb Thackeray’s philosophy within the Shiv Sena.
BJP leaders Pallab Lochan Das and Sushanta Borgohain Shinde met the MLAs at Guwahati airport, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was seen at the five-star hotel designated for them.
Eknath Shinde and other party legislators camped out in a Surat hotel in Gujarat, a state that is also governed by the BJP, before departing for Assam.
Shortly after his phone call with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the decision to relocate them to Guwahati was made. According to sources, Shinde requested that the Sena and BJP renew their alliance and co-rule Maharashtra.
According to reports, the BJP evacuated the MLAs to Assam in order to prevent any additional conflict with Sena leaders.
