Mumbai, June 22: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the pivotal Cabinet meeting of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government on Wednesday.

Uddhav tested positive, according to Kamal Nath, the head of the state’s Congress and Kamal Nath, a Congress observer for the state. Uddhav Thackeray was meant to meet with the chief minister prior to the Cabinet meeting, according to Kamal Nath, but since Uddhav tested positive for Covid, he was unable to do so.

The development comes amid widespread speculation that Uddhav Thackeray may step down because roughly 40 of the Shiv Sena’s 55 MLAs had joined the rebel Eknath Shinde in Guwahati. Sanjay Raut also suggested that the state was moving toward dissolving the state assembly during the crisis.
