New Delhi, June 24: Parameswaran Iyer has been appointed as the next chief executive officer (CEO) of the government think tank NITI Aayog.

Iyer will succeed Amitabh Kant as the third CEO of NITI Aayog. The CEO of the think tank since 2016, Kant’s term will end on June 30, 2022.

Iyer, a 1981-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, retired voluntarily approximately ten years ago to take on a clean-up programme at the World Bank.

He was appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation in 2017, a position that is crucial to the government’s ambitious Swachh Bharat initiative.

He had led the Swachch Bharat Mission after returning from the United States.
