New Delhi, June 26: In the midst of the ongoing political crisis in Maharashtra, the Centre has given 15 Shiv Sena rebel MLAs who defected to Eknath Shinde’s side ‘Y+’ category security cover of armed Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldiers.
This occurs a day after Eknath Shinde claimed that the security protection given to the dissident MLAs’ families had been revoked in a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil, DGP Rajnish Seth, and others. The accusations were dismissed by the Maha Vikas Aghadi administration.
On Saturday, Eknath Shinde alleged that the MVA government had ‘illegally and unlawfully’ revoked his security cover in retaliation.
“That we are current sitting MLAs, however, the security provided to us at our residence as well as to our family members as per the protocol has been illegally and unlawfully withdrawn, as an act of revenge. Needless to mention, this sinister move is another attempt to break our resolve and arm twist us to give into the demands of the MVA government comprising the NCP and INC goons,” Shinde wrote in the letter.
Eknath Shinde claimed that security had been removed, but Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil vehemently denied this, claiming that the claim was ‘totally unjustified and false.’
