IMD issues heavy rain warning in northern and central Jharkhand today

Jamshedpur, June 30: IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre extended the heavy shower  in isolated pockets of northern and central Jharkhand on Thursday.

Weathermen at IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre said most parts of northern and few places in central Jharkhand was likely to experience heavy showers on Thursday.

Some places would also witness thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by lightning to moderate rain on Thursday, ” said a duty officer at Ranchi Met Centre.

Satellite pictures suggested that a east-west trough  was running from Punjab to westcentral Bay of Bengal off south Odisha coast  across Haryana, south Uttar Pradesh, northeast Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, south Odisha extending upto 0.9 Km above the mean sea level.

Weathermen said the monsoon trough which had shifted towards the north was yet to restored to normality.

Shifting of the monsoon trough had restricted rainfall activity in southern and north- eastern Jharkhand.

The current rain deficit of the state stood at 50 percent. The deficit rose by three per cent in last 24 hours.

According to rain data, Jharkhand  has so far after the onset of monsoon received 89.9 per cent rain against a normal of 181.4 per cent, a deficit of 50 per cent.

Keeping fingers crossed weathermen said it would be difficult to make up for the loss in June.

The maximum temperature in Ranchi is expected to be around 32 degree Celsius on Thursday while Jamshedpur and adjoining Chaibasa is expected to record day’s reading of around 35 degree Celsius.

The days reading in Palamau region is expected to hover aroynd 37 degree Celsius on Thursday.
