Chicago, July 5: Robert E. Crimo III, a person of interest in connection with the shooting at the Chicago Fourth of July parade that left six people dead and more than 36 injured, was apprehended, according to police on Monday night. Earlier, a man with a powerful rifle from a rooftop opened fire on a Fourth of July parade in the Highland Park neighbourhood of Chicago.

Crimo can be seen fleeing a car with his hands raised after the police encircled it in a video published by the ABC News affiliate in Chicago. Authorities said that after being spotted, Crimo gave the cops a brief chase.

According to the Highland Park Police, Crimo will face charges.

According to CNN, the shooting started shortly after 10 am as people gathered along Central Avenue for a Fourth of July parade. Firearm evidence, according to police commander Chris O’Neill, was discovered on the rooftop of a building close to the shooting scene.

The shooting turned a civic show of patriotism into a scene of frantic mayhem as parents fled with their children and toddlers abandoned tricycles.

According to Jim Anthony, a spokesman for the NorthShore University HealthSystem, more than 36 persons were injured, the majority of whom were shot. According to emergency room physician Brigham Temple, the 26 individuals brought to the Highland Park hospital ranged in age from 8 to 85.
