New Delhi, July 5: Days after the yearly pilgrimage got underway following a two-year break, organisers announced that Amarnath yatra had been suspended due to severe weather.
They added that from the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam, the pilgrims would not be permitted to proceed towards the cave shrine housing the naturally sculpted ice-Shivling.
The two base camps Nunwan camp in Pahalgam, Anantnag district, and Baltal camp in Ganderbal district were where the yatra to the holy cave had started.
Last Thursday, the first group of pilgrims arrived at the Pahalgam base camp. Prior to starting on June 30, the trip was delayed by the coronavirus for a period of two years. Since then, the site has received more than 72,000 pilgrims who have prayed there.
On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the yatra is scheduled to come to a finish on August 11.
