Ranchi, July 7: Amid huge uproar across the country over the poster of the film ‘Kaali’, several social and religious organizations in Ranchi today registered an FIR against TMC MP Mahua Moitra, Leena Manimekakali and others associated with the film at Kotwali police station.
Before the FIR was registered, a demonstration was also staged on Zila School premises. Among the protestors, Congress spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan was also noticed with office bearers of Ranchi Yuva Mahanagar Ramnavmi Puja Committee and other organisations.
Asked Ranjan whether he participated in the programme in the capacity of Congress party office bearer, he said he is president of Ranchi District Janmashtami Aayojan Samiti and have participated in the protest in that capacity.
Controversy over the poster of the film ‘Kaali’ started in Toronto in Canada, where Leena released the poster of the documentary film made on Kali. On July 2, Leena released the poster on Twitter and then it was shown at the Aga Khan Museum in Canada.
Canada-based Indians lodged an objection against the poster before the High Commission. For now, Twitter has removed the tweet containing the ‘Kaali’ poster of filmmaker Leena.
It did not take a long time to reach the controversy to reach India from Canada. People took to the streets taking the matter and started protesting. Ranchi did not remain an exception.
