Ranchi, July 8: A total of 75 different saplings were planted on Friday at the 30-hectare forest land in Baram under the Center’s ambitious ‘Nagar Van’ or urban forest program. The land is one of the 75 sites in the country chosen to be the urban forest.

Ranchi BJP MP Sanjay Seth and MLA Rajesh Kachhap were present during the plantation of 75 different saplings.

The Urban Forest scheme is one of the many schemes which will be imposed by the government during the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ or 75 years of Independence. The funding for this project is done by the Indian government.

MP Sanjay Seth praised the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and explained the initiative and also instructed to complete the initiative as per the schedule.

The project’s goals are to increase green space in urban settings and improve the environment in cities by reducing pollution, providing cleaner air, reducing noise, harvesting rainwater, and reducing the impact of heat islands.

The scheme is important, especially for states like Jharkhand, where the number of trees is diminishing. According to an examination of data from the Forest Survey of India (FSI), the state’s tree cover has decreased by 47 sq km during the last ten years.

Apart from this, the remaining urban forests in Jharkhand will be built on 22.93 hectares of land in the Kandra of Bokaro, 9.59 hectares in the Damodarpur of Dhanbad, 50 hectares in the Jagadishpur of Hazaribag, 15 hectares in the Baliguma of Jamshedpur, and 11.17 hectares in the Kalyandih of Giridih.
