Ranchi, July 9: Residents of Rampur village in Lohardaga district got divided into communal lines after antisocial elements tossed a piece of forbidden meat in a temple.

A local resident informed this saying the situation came early in the morning on Saturday after the temple noticed the forbidden meat and raised an alarm, attracting the attention of the Hindu community and soon the matter got intense.

“As the police and intelligentsia of the village came to know about the development, they rushed to the spot and controlled the situation,” the resident said.

Superintendent of police (SP) of Lohardaga R Ramkumar confirmed the situation saying “an FIR was registered in his connection and a probe has been started to identify the anti-social elements.”

He added, “Situation is under control and tension has been diffused.”

Earlier on April 11, people in the district had divided into communal lines after a man succumbed to his injuries following a stone-pelting incident that took place after clashes broke out between two groups at Hirhi village of the district. The district had to impose section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and stop internet service to control the situation.
