In response to months of growing public outrage over the nation’s worst economic crisis in seven decades, thousands of protestors stormed the president’s official mansion and his secretariat in Sri Lanka’s commercial city Colombo on Saturday.
Just before tens of thousands of demonstrators stormed the property on Saturday, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa left his official residence in Colombo. After the president left his home, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe requested an urgent meeting with his cabinet ministers.
