New Delhi, July 11: Arjun Babuta, a young Indian shooter, won the men’s 10m Air Rifle competition on Monday, earning his nation its first gold medal at the ongoing ISSF World Cup in Changwon, South Korea. Arjun defeated Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Lucas Kozeniesky in a tough gold medal match with a relatively lopsided 17-9 performance.
The 23-year-old Punjabi athlete, who has been competing for India since 2016, won the ranking match with 261.1 points in order to go to the gold medal match. Arjun has now won his first gold medal for the senior team. At the 2016 Junior World Cup in Gabala, Azerbaijan, he had won the gold medal.
Parth Makhija, the other Indian competing, came in fourth with a score of 258.1, trailing Israeli shooter Sergey Richter, 33, who finished first with a score of 259.9. Parth Makhija also qualified for the ranking event after a strong performance on Sunday.
