Ranchi, July 11: The pan-India Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela, organised by the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, was also held in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Khunti, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Latehar and Ramgarh.

“The national apprenticeship mela was organised in eight districts of the state today. We had a huge response from participating industries and aspiring apprentices,” said Neha Arora, Director, Department of Labour, Employment, Training and Skill Development, Government of Jharkhand.

Ahead of the National Apprenticeship Mela today, the state government held a similar fair last month in all the districts of the state. The state has planned to make it a regular affair to promote job opportunities and encourage practical training among the youths.

“We will be hosting the Apprenticeship Mela every second Monday of each month so that the youth can pick up talent required for full time jobs. We began the fair last month and it will now be a regular feature round the year,” Arora said speaking to lagatar24.com.

The Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela was held across the country in 200 different locations featuring 36 industries, 500 plus trades and over 1,000 companies on Monday as part of the Prime Minister’s Skill India Mission, the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said in a statement.

“The idea is to promote apprenticeship in the state as it helps impart hands-on training to the youths giving them the opportunity to earn while they learn. This also offers great opportunities to the businesses that are looking for apprentices on a single platform.

“The apprenticeship mela brought the candidates with 5th-6th grade pass certificate, a skill training certificate, an ITI diploma or a graduate degree face to face with the companies. The individuals registered for the fair on the ministry’s portal,” said Arora.

The young and aspiring workforce will be able to choose among more than 500 trades such as welding, electrical work, housekeeping, beauticians, mechanic work, and more, the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said.

The candidates will also earn National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET)-recognized certifications, improving their employability after the training.

The major purpose of this program is to encourage companies to hire more apprentices while also assisting employers in discovering and developing their potential via training and practical skill sets, the ministry added.
