Mumbai, July 14: Maharashtra government, led by Eknath Shinde, has decided to lower the cost of petrol and diesel by Rs. 5 and Rs. 3, respectively. For at least the last 11 days, Mumbai’s petrol cost remained constant at Rs 111.35. The new price is Rs 106.35.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that the tax decrease required for this will cost the state 6,000 crore per year but will lower overall inflation. The Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel will be reduced, Mr. Shinde declared a week prior.
“The decision was part of the Shiv Sena-BJP government’s commitment to people’s welfare,” Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Just two weeks ago, Eknath Shinde conducted a coup within the Shiv Sena, overthrowing Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress administration.
