New Delhi, July 15: A plea related to the revisions in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) constitution was cited before the Supreme Court, requesting an immediate hearing.

The top court was informed that the case had been lingering for years when Senior Advocate PS Patwalia raised the argument, and Chief Justice of India NV Ramana responded that it would be decided.

The BCCI had submitted a petition in an effort to get the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and President Sourav Ganguly’s terms extended. The BCCI has requested authorization to alter the guidelines governing the “cooling down” time for the President, Secretary, and other office holders.

According to Patwalia, the court’s earlier judgment states that any amendments to the constitution must first receive court approval. The bench promised to see that the subject is scheduled for the following week.

Earlier, the top court adopted the BCCI reform recommendations made by the committee headed by Justice RM Lodha.

The recommendations state that when a position at the state cricket association or the BCCI level ends, there should be a three-year cooling-off period for the office bearers of the BCCI following a tenure of six years.
