Dhanbad, July 21: The District administration has begun inspection and scanning of water from RO (Reverse Osmosis) plants. Food Safety Officer (FSO) Aditi Singh made a surprise inspection of city-based three RO plants and collected samples for the quality test at Namkum-based State Food Testing Lab in Ranchi.

FSO inspected HE School Road-based Rameshwaram RO Plant, Babloo RO Plant Barmasia and Exwali Fresh RO Plant Gajuwatand.

“Jars of the RO plants were found to be dirty.  Especially the washing process of the jar was not up to standard. So I directed them to get it cleaned as per the standard before filling up the water”, said Aditi Singh.

Since the water of Dhanbad is said to be not found as per prescribed standard, most people use RO water for drinking. In wake of rising demands, RO plants have come up in large numbers in different areas.

The sudden inspection was conducted on the directive of SDM Prem Kumar Tiwari who received regular complaints from people about poor quality water supply by RO plants in jars.

The SDM  has also directed operators of district-based RO plants to conduct testing of water quality at the National Accreditation Board of Testing and Calibration Laboratories ( NABL) accredited  Lab on a mandatory basis every six months. The SDM has also directed to conduct a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) test of water from time to time.

The FSO said that inspection of all RO plants would be conducted on a priority basis to ensure the implementation of proper guidelines for maintaining water quality. “I have also asked operators of RO Plants to sanitize jar every week with bleaching powder,” FSO added.
