New Delhi, July 22: Akasa Air, which is supported by Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, will launch its maiden commercial flight on August 7 by flying a Boeing 737 Max on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.

In a statement released on Friday, Akasa Air stated that it had started selling tickets for 28 flights that will operate weekly on the routes of Mumbai to Ahmedabad beginning on August 7 and Bengaluru to Kochi beginning on August 13.

Two Boeing 737 Max aircraft will be used for flying operations, according to the airline company. Boeing has already delivered one aircraft, and the second is expected to be delivered later this month.

“We kick-start operations with flights between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, with the brand-new Boeing 737 Max aircraft,” said Praveen Iyer, Co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer, Akasa Air, as quoted by news agency PTI.

Akasa Air received its air operator certificate (AOC) from the aviation authority Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on July 7.

After receiving approval from the DGCA in August, Akasa Air signed a contract with Boeing on November 26th, 2017 to buy 72 Max aircraft.
