Dhanbad July 25: Over 5,000 lawyers of Dhanbad district and sub-divisional courts today stayed away from judicial work under District Bar Association in protest against the hike in court fees in the state.

Dhanbad Bar Association president Amrendra Kumar Sahay said that on the directive of the State Bar Council, all lawyers (over 5,000) of the district, as well as the sub-divisional court, kept themselves away from all judicial works unanimously.

“All lawyers came to the court today at their scheduled time but did not work. Besides staying away from judicial work, we wore a black badge to show our protest against the state government decision,” said District Bar Association President Amrendra Kumar Sahay.

A delegation of the Bar Association under president Sahay comprising Vice-President Rajendra Yadav, General Secretary Jitendra Kumar, Joint Secretary Amit Kumar, Treasurer Meghnath Rawani, Governing Body (GB) members Vijay Pandey, Abhijit Rajan Pal and Vibhash Mahto handed over the protest memorandum to the deputy commissioner (DC) and district judge for the government.

“Court fee hike will directly impact poor litigants. So, we urge the state government to withdraw the decision of court fee hike and take fix it again with considering the plight of poor litigants in mind,” said president Sahay.
