Mumbai, Aug 4: Following a raid at a drug manufacturing unit in Nalasopara of the Palghar district, Mumbai police confiscated more than 700 kg of mephedrone valued at Rs 1,400 crore and detained five people, an official said here on Thursday.
He claimed that the raid at the unit was carried out by the Mumbai crime branch’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC).
“The action was carried out based on specific inputs. The ANC team raided the premises, during which it found that mephedrone, a banned drug, was being manufactured,” he said.
“While four of the accused were arrested in Mumbai, one person was held in Nalasopara,” the official said.
He continued, “This is one of the largest narcotics hauls by the city police in recent times.”
Notably, Mephedrone is a synthetic stimulant and psychoactive drug that is illegal under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. It is often referred to as “meow meow” or “MD.”
