CWG 2022: Bhavina Patel reaches final of para table tennis

New Delhi, Aug 5: Bhavina Patel, an Indian para table tennis champion and Tokyo Paralympic medallist, assured her nation of a second medal on Friday by advancing directly into the women’s singles final of the Commonwealth Games 2022 being held in Birmingham after defeating Sue Bailey of England.

In her women’s singles class 3-5 match, Bhavina, a member of India’s para table tennis squad, defeated her opponent 3-0. In just three games, she defeated Bailey by scores of 11-6, 11-6, and 11-6, giving India another medal.

In her third round of the competition at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Thursday, Bhavina Patel defeated Akanisi Latu of Fiji to advance to the women’s singles semifinal.

She overcame Latu in her women’s singles class 3-5 match 11-1, 11-5, 11-1. Bhavina was the epitome of domination as she easily defeated her opponent in straight sets.

Raj Aravindan and Sonalben Patel, on the other hand, were eliminated from the singles tournament after suffering defeats in the semifinals.

Raj was defeated 1-3 by Naslru Sule in the semifinal match. With scores of 11-7, 8-11, 4-11, and 7-11, Sule won his men’s singles match in classes 3-5. Raj got off to a fantastic start by easily winning his first game. However, he abruptly lost steam and went on to lose the following three games and the match.

After winning his third match of the season and defeating Dan Bullen of England, Raj Aravindan Alagar has secured a spot in the semifinal.

India’s para table tennis star Sonalben Patel advanced to the semifinal of the women’s singles category after defeating Nigeria’s Chinenye Obiora at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Thursday.
