New Delhi, Aug 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday will preside over the seventh meeting of the NITI Aayog’s governing council, which, according to his office, will usher in a new era of cooperation between the central government and the states.

After July 2019, this will be the council’s first actual physical meeting, and all of the chief ministers will be present.

The need for the states to be flexible, resilient, and self-sufficient as they work toward “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” in the spirit of cooperative federalism is increased as the nation marks its 75th anniversary of independence, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

“In the drive towards building a steady, sustainable and inclusive India, the seventh governing council meeting of the NITI Aayog will be held on August 7 and this will pave the way for synergies towards a new era of collaboration and cooperation between the Centre and states/Union territories,” it said in a statement.

The meeting’s agenda covers agricultural diversification, achieving self-sufficiency in oilseeds, pulses, and agri-communities, putting the National Education Policy into practise, and urban governance. It will be held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan Cultural Centre.

According to the PMO, the meeting is crucial as the nation enters “Amrit Kaal,” a term first used by PM Modi to describe the subsequent 25 years as India approaches its 100th anniversary of independence, against the backdrop of the COVID pandemic, and because India will be hosting the G20 presidency and summit next year.
