Dhanbad, Aug 15: One employee of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) died of electrocution while four others including a deputy manager suffered severe burns while preparing for flag hoisting ceremony at New Akashkinari colliery office in Govindpur Area under Katras police station, around 19 km away from district headquarters on Monday.
The police of the Katras region said that the coal company employees were preparing for a flag hoisting ceremony at the colliery office. As they raised the flag-equipped iron pole, it touched an electric wire due to which all five received a major jolt.
The deceased was identified as Dilshad Ahmed (38). The injured official and staff deputy manager of the colliery are Vikash Kumar Keshri, KK Pandey, Bhupendra Singh and Sanjay Ravi Das. They were admitted to Central Hospital in Jagjivan Nagar, Dhanbad.
On getting the information, BCCL chairman cum managing director (CMD) Samiran Dutta, also reached the spot and announced proper compensation to the family member of the deceased and better treatment for the injured officers and employees.
Injured mechanic K K Pandey told the media that as they raised the pole, it came in contact with an overhead electric cable and gave a major jolt.
After the incident, villagers and union leaders began demonstrating but the CMD, who was in the Sijua area, reached the spot and pacified the agitators with an announcement of proper compensation.
