Ranchi, Aug 26: BJP MLA Dhulu Mahto may land in trouble as the Jharkhand High Court while hearing a PIL sought a reply from the income tax department regarding his property.
The high court has asked the I-T department to tell what action later has taken after the former’s directions in the past.
The PIL was filed by a Dhanbad resident Somnath Chatterjee demanding an ED probe in the matter of possession of ‘benami’ property of the legislator. The petitioner has informed the court that Dhulu Mahto had not given the correct information about his property while contesting the 2019 assembly election.
The petition suggests that Mahto possesses ‘benami’ property worth Rs 675 crore but he has not mentioned the same in his affidavit.
During the hearing, the court mentioned that on March 30, 2016, it had sought information from the Income Tax department regarding the investigation of disproportionate assets of the MLA while hearing PIL but till now the investigation has not been done.
