New Delhi, Sept 1: A SpiceJet flight that departed from the Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Thursday morning for Nashik in Maharashtra returned to the city mid-flight because of a ‘autopilot’ issue, according to a DGCA official.

He claimed the Boeing 737 made a secure landing.

“SpiceJet B737 aircraft VT-SLP, operating flight SG-8363 (Delhi-Nashik) on Thursday was involved in an air turnback due to an autopilot snag,” the official said.

SpiceJet planes have been involved in a number of mishaps in the past, which led the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to issue a show-cause notice to the airline. The airline is currently experiencing financial instability due to rising fuel prices and rupee depreciation.

In addition, the airline was mandated to run no more than 50% of its flights for eight weeks by the aviation safety authorities on July 27.
