New Delhi, Sept 4: A week after quitting the Congress and launching a vicious attack on the Gandhis, Ghulam Nabi Azad is scheduled to launch a new political career with a rally in Jammu today.

At the gathering, Azad is likely to announce the creation of his new party. Last Monday, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir announced he will shortly start a new political party. He stated that the first unit will be in Jammu and Kashmir, where elections are scheduled.

The Azad-led party will have the opportunity to form alliances with the BJP or major Jammu and Kashmir parties like the National Conference or PDP.

The 73-year-old man resigned from the Congress just days after rejecting a position in the party’s Jammu and Kashmir branch, claiming that his recommendations for nominations were ignored. His departure triggered a huge flight of Congress politicians from the Jammu and Kashmir branch.

Following his retirement, the veteran leader went after Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of “childish behaviour” and immaturity, as well as allowing a “coterie of inexperienced sycophants” to rule the party.

Azad’s departure comes ahead of the 2024 general election and follows the resignations of numerous high-profile party members, including former Punjab President Minister Amarinder Singh, the party’s former Punjab chief Sunil Jakhar, and former Union Ministers Kapil Sibal and Ashwani Kumar.
