Formerly headed by Academician Pratap Bhanu Mehta, a prominent critic of the BJP government, the CPR Board is now headed by Meenakshi Gopinath, a political scientist who has taught at Jawaharlal Nehru University and served in Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi. The Chairman is Yamini Aiyar. Board members include former foreign minister Shyam Saran and IIM professor Rama Bijapurkar.

Regarding the funding, the team says on its website that as recognized by the Indian government as a non-profit corporation, donations to it are tax-free.

Regarding the alleged connection with illegal funding of political parties, it should be recalled here that according to the latest data from last year, India has 2,858 parties registered with the Election Commission Indian elections, of which 2,796 parties were not recognized, meaning they did not meet the minimum criteria for independent recognition
