Jharkhand bags five medals in WMC India Ranking championship

State team won one gold and four silver medals

Dhanbad, Sept 8: The Jharkhand team bagged a total of five medals with one gold and four silver in World Muaythai Council India Ranking Championship held at Sri Chhanabyre Gowda Stadium Hoskote Bangalore from September 2 to 4.

Jharkhand State Muaythai Association general secretary Anupam Mahtha said that the 25-member squad of the state had participated in this ranking championship in which five players won the medals.

Amal Mandal of Dhanbad (Symbiosis Public School) won the gold medal in his category. Four other players of state who won silver medals are Prince Kumar, Yuvraj, Raj Thakur and Shashank Kumar.

 

“Silver lining for Jharkhand team in Bangalore national ranking championship was that team won the gold medal, though last year number of medals were more than this time,” said state association secretary Anupam Mahtha.

The professional wing of the International Federation of Muaythai and the World Muaythai Council of India had jointly organized this ranking championship.

“Of course, the Jharkhand team won only five medals but our players gave a tremendous performance in each bout against their renowned rivals and got highly appreciation from spectators as well as experts of the game,“ said Anupam Mahtha.

The technical fighting display of Jharkhand was the centre of attraction in the championship. Mahtha informed that next month (October) Jharkhand State Muaythai Championship cum WMC Jharkhand State Ranking Series would be organized in Dhanbad.

Jharkhand State Muaythai Association president Sidharth Gautam, vice-president Reja Istiyaque, Raja Vishwakarma, Rajan Kumar, administrative secretary Amit Kumar, Symbiosis Public School director Ashish Mandal, principal Indrani Ghosh, joint secretary Sumit Singh congratulated the state players for their achievement.
