Daltonganj, Sept 14: The impasse between 25 doctors and the deputy superintendent (DS) at Garhwa Sadar Hospital continued even on Tuesday which is a prolongation since Monday.

The doctors who signed a petition on September 12 levelled charges of high handedness on the part of the DS while the DS contends that he is simply trying to implement letters of the state government in regards to ensuring the presence of the doctors at the government hospitals from 9 am to 3 pm.

Lagatar24.com has a written note of hospital peon Pradeep Kumar on how doctors supposed to be on duty on September 13 in the outpatient departments of surgery, medicine, gynecology, paediatrics, eye and ENT and dental refused to sign on the duty register, an act which if the state health department takes up seriously will be too embarrassing for them, admitted veteran doctors of the Palamu commissionary.

Sources said such obstinacy tantamount to medical anarchy in the hospital.

Deputy Superintendent Dr Awadesh Singh said, “This is unfortunate as we have to think of the ailing people who come to the hospital for treatment. Not signing on the duty day in the register is not a good thing.”

Independent sources said the outbreak of the discontent has tacit approval of a few senior doctors who have an axe to grind for one or more reasons.

Meanwhile, Garhwa DC Ramesh Gholap is all out to streamline the functioning of Sadar Hospital and keeps a close tab on it.

Dr Anil Kumar, additional chief medical officer Palamu who holds additional charge of the civil surgeon Garhwa told this correspondent today, “On Tuesday, I convened a meeting with the doctors of the Garhwa Sadar Hospital which they attended but in a manner that reflected their reluctance or unwillingness at the outset not to take part in it.”

“We heard each other. It was our first sit and talk together in the wake of the eruption of the discontent. We hope there will be an atmosphere of trust and understanding among all of us,” he added.

According to sources, the disgruntled doctors have the agenda of dropping Dr Awadesh Singh as DS which the Garhwa civil surgeoncy will not find an easy doing.

Civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar said since DC Gholap made Dr Awadesh Singh the DS and thus it is not within his powers to offset the order of the deputy commissioner.

A doctor in Palamu preferring anonymity said, “The Garhwa district administration should set up a 3-member committee headed by either additional collector or deputy development commissioner to look into the factors and circumstances which triggered such a situation where there is a DS alone who finds 25 doctors line up against him. The committee be given a week to submit its findings.”
