Ranchi, Sept 26: Organised under the aegis of All India Bank Pensioners’ and Retired Confederation, bankers today staged a demonstration for their pension updating at Albert Ekka Chowk in the heart of Jharkhand capital.

A senior leader of the organisation Ram Balak Mahto informed Lagatar24.com that the pension of retired bank employees has not been updated since 1992 due to which, even a person who retired from the rank of general manager is getting hardly Rs 6000 to Rs 7000 as pension.

Mahto said the agitation was part of a nationwide demonstration to mount pressure on the union government to do needful the updating the pension to ensure payment of a respectable amount to a retired bank employee who despite working as custodian of money throughout his life should not face the pecuniary problem.

“At the time when the demonstration was being staged in Jharkhand’s capital, a similar programme was going at Jantar Mantar in Delhi besides other parts of Jharkhand including Jamshedpur, Dhanbad and Hazaribagh. Those participating in the demonstration were wearing black ribbons,” Mahto said.
