New Delhi, Oct 7: Due to terrorism and sectarian bloodshed, the US has warned its people to rethink visiting Pakistan, particularly its unrest-ridden areas.

The US State Department advised its citizens from travelling to Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) provinces, including the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), because of terrorism and kidnapping.

“Reconsider travel to Pakistan due to terrorism and sectarian violence. Some areas have increased risk,” it said, putting the advisory to Level 3.

Notably, when tourists and travellers are put in danger over an extended period of time, a level 3 travel warning is issued, and any unnecessary travel to the destination should be avoided.

The warning also cautioned Americans against travelling close to the Line of Control (LoC) owing to the threat of terrorism and possible armed conflict.

A local history of terrorism and continuous ideological aspirations of violence by extremist elements, it claimed, have led to indiscriminate assaults on civilian as well as local military and police targets. It was noted that terrorist groups continue to plot strikes in Pakistan.

“Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, military installations, airports, universities, tourist locations, schools, hospitals, places of worship, and government facilities. Terrorists have targeted US diplomats and diplomatic facilities in the past,” said the advisory.
