New Delhi, Oct 12: Delhi was enveloped in a heavy layer of fog on Wednesday morning, which reduced visibility in some areas to only 350 metres. This is the first fog of the season to affect the nation’s capital, according to senior scientist R K Jenamani of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Delhi experienced the lowest temperature that was 0.2 degrees Celsius below average. The highest temperature will probably reach 31 degrees Celsius. Daytime weather is expected to be partly overcast.

An IMD official had earlier claimed that the heavy mist was caused by a protracted period of rain, which raised the amount of moisture in the atmosphere.

The official reported that around 8.30 am, visibility had decreased to 600 metres at the Safdarjung Observatory, the main weather station in Delhi, and to 350 metres at the Palam meteorological station.

By 9 am and 10 am, this had increased to 2,100 metres at Palam and Safdarjung, respectively. The capital’s air quality index was 66 at 9 am, which is considered to be “satisfactory.”
