Ranchi, Oct 13: Nine years on as many as 514 students of Jharkhand, who had impersonated as extremists to play drama of fake surrender allegedly with the support of police officials to get government jobs after spending money in crores, are waiting for justice.

One of the victims Rajesh Kumar said that after surrendering, he was assured a job of constable and money was also taken from him in lieu of the job, but till date nothing has happened. Another victim, Roshan Kumar echoed Rajesh saying he had given money by selling the land but he did not get a job. Yet another victim Devendra told that he had surrendered with the weapon but later realized he was befooled.

State police spokesperson A.V. Homkar could not be reached for his comments on the matter. A senior police official said a probe is going on in the matter.

“The matter surfaced in 2013. Students who impersonated as extremists were associated with Digdarshan Coaching Institute. After the matter came to fore one Ravi Bodra was arrested on April 6, 2014. A SIT was also constituted on September 1, 2020. The probe is on,” the official said, expressing his inability to share any information regarding the present status of the probe.

More than five crore was collected from the innocent students at the rate of Rs 4.5 lakh per student for the drama of surrender to get the government. The students were told that after staging surrender everyone would be recruited as constable and they will have a bright future. Some of the students, convinced by the assurance, had even sold their land to arrange money.

The preys were from Ranchi, Khunti, Gumla and Simdega. The youths were kept in the old jail premises under the supervision of CRPF CoBRA battalion personnel. The picture was taken with the weapon. When the fake surrender was being staged D.K. Pandey, who later became director general of Jharkhand Police, was CRPF IG of Jharkhand Sector.

After SIT was constituted in 2020, in January 2021 Ravi Bodra, who was arrested in this connection in 2014, filed an intervention petition in the High Court in the matter alleging involvement of the then CRPF IG D.K. Pandey, who later became Jharkhand DGP, former home secretary JB Tubid, IG S.N. Pradhan, Deputy Commandant of Cobra Battalion P.R.K Mishra, company commandant Lakhendra Singh and the then SSP of Ranchi but despite that no breakthrough has taken place in the matter and entire incident is still a mystery.
