Jamshedpur, Oct 15: After overstaying for five days or so the southwest monsoon has started withdrawing from Jharkhand.

Weathermen at IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre said the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from some parts of Jharkhand -Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Chatra, Hazaribag and Koderma.

The withdrawal line of the southwest monsoon was today passing through Raxaul, Daltonganj, Pendra Road, Chhindwara, Jalgaon and Dahanu.

“Conditions are very likely to become favourable for further withdrawal of southwest monsoon from remaining parts of Jharkhand during next two days, ” said Abhishek Anand, head of Ranchi Met Centre.

Today’s wind chart analysis and satellite imagery indicated a cyclonic circulation over the central Bay of Bengal adjacent southwest Bay of Bengal extending up to 3.1 Km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height.

This year, the four-month monsoon from June to September ended with a deficit of 20 per cent. In Met parlance, a deficit of up to 19 per cent is considered as good as normal.

Monsoon began on a weak note in June. The first two monsoon months- June and July- ended with a heavy rain deficit which severely affected the Kharif plantation and other agricultural activities.

But, a good spell of rain in August due to frequent low pressure and cyclonic circulations started recovering the huge rain deficit.

Weathermen have issued no alerts for today. However, light to moderate rain is expected at isolated places in southwestern parts of the state today.
