PM Modi offers prayers at Kedarnath temple

New Delhi, Oct 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers on Friday at the well-known Kedarnath temple in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand and lay the cornerstone for the construction of the Gaurikund-Kedarnath ropeway.

The prime minister conducted a “puja” at the temple while dressed in a white traditional hill people outfit with a “swastika” symbol stitched on it. Later in the day, he would go go to the Badrinath temple.

PM Modi will review several ongoing development projects and lay the cornerstones for some new ones during his two-day tour of the state.

When the PM arrived in a jet from the Indian Air Force (IAF) at the Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun, the governor, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh, the chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, and a union minister, Ajay Bhatt, met him.

The prime minister laid the cornerstone for the 9.7-km Gaurikund-Kedarnath ropeway project after conducting the “puja” at the Kedarnath shrine. Devotees will now be able to travel 30 minutes via ropeway from Gaurikund to the temple.

The priests who conducted the “puja” prayed to the prime minister for courage to lead the nation ahead.Additionally, PM Modi spent some time at Adi Guru Shankaracharya’s Samadhi Sthal. He will evaluate the advancement of the riverside development projects at Badrinath Dham.

PM Modi will speak to a crowd in Mana village and lay the cornerstones for Rs 3,400 crore in road and ropeway constructions for the Kedarnath and Badrinath temples in the afternoon. He will also examine the advancement of the Arrival Plaza and neighbourhood lakes’ beautifying project.

This is PM Modi’s sixth trip to Kedarnath and his second as prime minister to Badrinath.

The two well-known hill temples have increased security in preparation for the prime minister’s arrival. Quintals of flowers have been used to embellish both temples.
