New Delhi, Nov 3: The Central government on Thursday notified the Delhi High Court that sufficient preparations had been made to assure security and safety of former BJP MP Subramanian Swamy.
Justice Yashwant Varma took note of Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Sanjay Jain’s plea to that effect.
Swamy’s attorney also informed the court that vacant possession of the government housing would be given by Saturday. As a result, the Court dismissed Swamy’s argument that he wasn’t receiving security at his own property.
In January 2016, the Central Government assigned Swamy, who is entitled to Z category protection, a government bungalow in Delhi for a period of five years. He was told to leave the bungalow after his term ended in April 2022.
On September 14, the High Court denied Swamy’s request for a re-allotment of the bungalow after observing that the allotment was granted for a five-year period and that no documentation had been provided that mandated or required the allocation of government housing to Z category protectees.
A categorical assurance was made by the Center that Swamy would have security at his private residence when the High Court ordered him to turn over possession of his bungalow, but no one even went to his private residence to assess the infrastructure required to provide security, according to Swamy, who then approached the High Court through the present plea.
